Softball Recap: Wallkill's Win on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Wallkill extended their winning streak to four on Tuesday, bumping their season record up to 13-2 in the process. They came out on top against the Spackenkill Spartans by a score of 4-1. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Panthers also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2023.

Emma Hunt was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Hunt was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gianna Allessandro, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.

Wallkill was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Spackenkill only posted a batting average of .154.

As for Spackenkill, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-8 record this season. Their loss continues a trend for the team, making it four in a row.

On Spackenkill's side, Cadie Hanaburgh spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits. Hanaburgh has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Adriana Alessandro was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Wallkill is set to face off against their familiar foe Red Hook at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Spackenkill will take on rival Dover at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday.
