Softball Recap: Hershey Panthers vs. Holyoke Dragons
Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hershey). They never let the Holyoke Dragons onto the board and left with a 16-0 victory on Monday. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by ten runs or more this season.
Ellie Hampton was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive pitching appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Jaycie Reitz was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Katie Abbott, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Hershey always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. The last time their OBP was this high was back in September of 2023.
The win (which was Hershey's third in a row) raised their record to 5-11. As for Holyoke, their defeat was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 4-11.
Hershey will play host again on Thursday to welcome Southern Valley/Alma, where first pitch is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Hershey will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last. As for Holyoke, they will welcome Bennett at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Holyoke has given up an average of 11.1 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
