Softball Recap: St. Albans Wins Going Away Against Capital

St. Albans won the last time they faced Capital and things went their way on Thursday too. The Red Dragons blew past the Cougars 9-0. The result was nothing new for the Red Dragons, who have now won six matches by nine runs or more so far this season.

Ava Bentley made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Alyssa Gibson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Cathryn Karnes also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

St. Albans always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .577. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Capital only posted an OBP of .118.

The win made it two in a row for St. Albans and bumps their season record up to 10-7. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 3-16 Capital and 2-9 Parkersburg. As for Capital, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-16 record this season.

St. Albans will head out on the road to challenge Chapmanville Regional at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Red Dragons 3.2, the Tigers 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Capital, they will square off against Parkersburg at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
