Middletown faced Scituate in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Islanders had just enough and edged out the Spartans 2-1. While Middletown didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-10-2), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Rebecca Audi and Sydney Bogosian scored both of Middletown's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 12 goals.

Middletown is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 23 goals over those six matchups. As for Scituate, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 1-5-2 record this season.

Coincidentally, Middletown and Scituate will both be playing Coventry the next time they take the pitch. The Spartans will host the Oakers at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Islanders will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
