Softball Preview: Simsbury Trojans vs. Newington Nor'easters
The Simsbury Trojans will head out on the road to square off against the Newington Nor'easters at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Simsbury is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past South Windsor 20-4 on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Newington posted their closest win since May 13, 2024 on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Lewis Mills, sneaking past 9-7. The Nor'easters haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Abigail Greaves was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Greaves was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs.
In other batting news, Peyton Stegmaier was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Maiya Simpson was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
