Monticello Empire League recap October 1, 2013

Wood scaled the state rankings by moving to 216 from 307 this week, the biggest jump in Monticello Empire League. The Wildcats climbed the ranks as a result of beating Benicia 35-34.

Napa was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in the league. Earlier in the week, the Indians defeated Vanden 22-21.

Wood's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Tyler Bailey threw for 129 yards and Roddrick Douglas had 78 yards receiving. On the ground Damon Lewis chipped in 185 yards. Aaron Herbert helped Wood's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 32 yards.

Lewis provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Carlos Meraz's team beat the Panthers. Lewis' favorite target this week was Douglas, who caught 2 passes for 78 yards.

Lewis was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 185 yards on 30 carries as the Wildcats bested Benicia. Bailey also contributed to the rushing game with 42 yards on the ground.

Thanks to the talents of Bailey and Lewis, Wood has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Bailey leads the league in passing with 607 yards, while Lewis has rushed for 484 yards this season. Tops in the league in receiving yards is Vacaville's Tanner Donaldson, with 250 yards on 14 catches.

Napa and the Vikings played the most contested game in Monticello Empire League this week, with Napa eventually emerging with a 22-21 victory.
