Basketball Recap: South Dade Takes a Loss

If South Dade was feeling good fresh off their 66-34 takedown of Braddock last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The South Dade Buccaneers came up short against the Palmer Trinity Falcons on Friday, falling 55-31. While losing is never fun, the Buccaneers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 381st, while the Falcons are ranked 89th).

Despite the loss, South Dade still got an impressive performance from Justice Sheppard, who posted 12 points and three steals.

Leading Palmer Trinity to victory were Emma Esparza and Sofia Laria. Esparza scored 19 points and three steals, while Laria earned 14 points along with eight boards and three steals. Laria has been hot, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaliyah Wright, who had seven points and eight boards.

South Dade has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season. As for Palmer Trinity, they pushed their record up to 11-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

South Dade has already played their next contest (against Palmetto), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Palmer Trinity has already played their next game, a 48-43 loss against Miami Christian on the 1st.
