Recap: Pamlico County Hurricanes vs. Southside Seahawks
The Pamlico County Hurricanes entered their tilt with the Southside Seahawks with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Pamlico County enjoyed a cozy 51-33 victory over the Seahawks on Wednesday. That's another feather in the cap for Pamlico County, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Pamlico County found their leader in underclassman Sydney Whitley-Reese, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds. Whitley-Reese is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 17 or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyliyah Barber, who scored 12 points along with seven steals and five rebounds.
Southside's loss came despite strong showings from Tamya Smith and I'Kiriyah Minor. Smith scored 15 points along with five steals and three blocks, while Minor scored 12 points along with three steals. Smith is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Kaliah Moore was another key contributor, scoring two points along with four blocks.
Southside struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Pamlico County racked up 14 assists.
Pamlico County is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a massive bump to their 10-10 record this season. As for Southside, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pamlico County will take on the Mariners at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. East Carteret knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully the Hurricanes likes a good challenge. As for Southside, they will be playing at home against the Devil Pups at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lejeune is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
