Basketball Recap: Mapleton Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

Mapleton had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.3 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They took down Crow/City First Christian Academy 40-23. Given the Sailors' advantage in MaxPreps' Oregon basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while Crow/City First Christian Academy are ranked 257th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mapleton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Helen Burruss led the charge by putting up seven points. Burruss has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Morgan Milbrett was another key player, earning nine points and six rebounds.

Mapleton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 34 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.

Mapleton's record now sits at 8-4. As for Crow/City First Christian Academy, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-8.

Mapleton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 42-29 loss against Southwest Christian on the 17th. Crow/City First Christian Academy has also already played their next game (against Triangle Lake), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
