Softball Recap: Nansemond River Warriors vs. Deep Creek Hornets

Nansemond River had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 8-7 to make it four. They fell 6-2 to the Deep Creek Hornets. The Warriors were red-hot at the plate heading into the game (they scored no less than ten runs in the three matches prior), but the Hornets' pitcher proved too tough.

Nansemond River saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ashlyn Cosby, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

As for Deep Creek, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games.

On Deep Creek's side, Lilly B made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits (and not a single walk). B has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Bailey Cockrell and Hannah Liddell did most of the damage at the plate: Cockrell went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while Liddell went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI Liddell has posted since back in March.
