Volleyball Recap: Savannah Mayburry Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat Loyalton

If Loyalton wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Portola, they should've done a better job of containing Olivia Carr. The Tigers walked away with a 3-1 win over the Grizzlies on Tuesday for which the team can thank Carr, who had 23 kills, 17 digs, 12 aces, and three blocks. She is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had seven or more in each of the last four games she's played dating back to last season.

Portola had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 25-27, 25-11, 25-23, 25-22.

Portola's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Savannah Mayburry, who had seven aces and three digs.

They weren't the only good server: Portola was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 26 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since the start of last season.

Portola's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Loyalton, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Portola didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 2-0 win against Sierra Sage Academy/Right Of Passage on the 22nd. As for Loyalton, they have also already played their next contest, a 3-0 loss against Chester on the 21st.
