Volleyball Recap: Kouts Mustangs & Fillies vs. South Newton Rebels

After flying high against Knox on Wednesday, Kouts came back down to earth. The Mustangs & Fillies took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the South Newton Rebels on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Mustangs & Fillies of the 3-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2024.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-13, 21-25, 25-19, 25-20.

Kouts' offense was headlined by Erin Stewart and Ellie Nemeth, who picked up 11 kills apiece. They got some help from Alyssa Twedt and her 17 assists. Bella Birky controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

South Newton found their leader in sophomore Briley Iseminger, who had 26 digs and seven assists. Iseminger has been hot, having posted 14 or more digs the last seven times she's played.

Kouts' loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for South Newton, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Kouts wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 2-0 defeat against La Porte on the 23rd. As for South Newton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 2-0 loss against Rossville on the 23rd.
