Levelland quarterback Nick Gerber sets Texas single-season passing yards state record

Senior makes it to 5,617 yards in a loss against Wylie in the UIL playoffs.

Nick Gerber of Levelland (Texas) piled on the records this year.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound gunslinger set the Texas single-season state record for passing yards Friday night in a 49-14 loss to Wylie (Abilene) in the Class 4A Division 1 Region 1 final. He had 216 yards to give him 5,617 on the season. The previous record holder was Shelton Eppler of Navasota with 5,444 yards.

The standout senior also eclipsed the single-season state touchdown mark earlier in the playoffs and finished with 77 on the season. Eppler also had the record in that category with 71.
