Recap: Floydada Whirlwinds vs. Lockney Longhorns
The Floydada Whirlwinds waltzed into their match on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They were the clear victor by a 82-62 margin over Lockney. Given Floydada's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 368th, while the Longhorns are ranked 1240th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Floydada got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Tyrean Henderson out in front who scored 21 points along with six assists and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Trevino, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
When it comes to explaining why Lockney lost, one person who can't be blamed is Nathan Hernandez. Despite the final result, he scored 18 points along with five assists and four steals. Dyllan Thiebaud was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Floydada has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season. As for Lockney, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Ralls the next time they take the court. Lockney will head out to face Ralls at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Floydada will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
