Basketball Recap: Liberty Takes a Loss

Liberty easily dispatched Brookville last Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Liberty Minutemen fell just short of the Halifax County Comets by a score of 58-55 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Minutemen have suffered since December 4, 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Liberty lost, don't look at Ayden Padgett. Despite the final result, he went 8 of 12 en route to 22 points along with five assists and five rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Padgett a new career-high in blocks (four). Another player making a difference was Landon Darnell, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten boards.

Liberty dropped their record down to 4-12 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Halifax County, their victory bumped their record up to 11-8.

Liberty didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 56-46 defeat against Jefferson Forest on the 4th. As for Halifax County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 61-49 win against Martinsville on the 4th.
