Football Recap: Austin Deal Key Part of Team Effort in Patriots Win

The Pender Patriots beat the Red Springs Red Devils 36-28 on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Patriots.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pender to victory, but perhaps none more so than Austin Deal, who rushed for 125 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 7.4 yards per carry, and also threw for 40 yards and one TD. Those 40 passing yards gave Deal a new career-high. Another rusher making a difference was Jaheim Lambe, who rushed for 155 yards and one touchdown on only ten carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Pender was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 533 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Red Springs only rushed for 183 rushing yards.

When it comes to explaining why Red Springs lost, don't look at Chase Boone. Despite the final result, he threw for 171 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 106 yards and one score on only ten carries.

Pender has also opened the season with a perfect 2-0 record. As for Red Springs, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Pender will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Wallace-Rose Hill at 7:00 p.m. on the 12th. As for Red Springs, they will head out on the road to face off against St. Pauls at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
