Panther Creek had won four straight at home, but on Thursday they bumped up to 7-1 to make it five. They strolled past the Lake Dallas Falcons with points to spare, taking the game 31-13. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 50th, while the Falcons are ranked 242nd) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Panther Creek had a senior duo take command as Graylyn Fry threw for 221 yards and one touchdown and Donovan Webb rushed for 101 yards and one score.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Panther Creek proved: they limited Lake Dallas to a paltry 2.3 yards per carry. While two picked up at least five total tackles, Ashton Meldrum stood above the rest. He picked up two sacks, forced one fumble, and made five total tackles (4.0 for loss). Panther Creek didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.1.

Panther Creek's defense didn't let Ben Allen, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for six sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Liam Egert and Meldrum, who racked up four sacks between them. Meldrum has been hot recently, having also posted five or more total tackles the last four times he's played. Another thorn in Lake Dallas' side was Chance Mitchell, who made 11 total tackles (2.0 for loss).

As for Lake Dallas, their record is now 4-3. Having soared to a lofty 56 points in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

When it comes to explaining why Lake Dallas lost, don't look at Dj Hicks. Despite the final result, he picked up 94 receiving yards and one TD.

Coincidentally, Panther Creek and Lake Dallas will both be playing Aubrey the next time they take the field. The Falcons will host the Chaparrals at 7:30 p.m. on the 24th, while the Panthers will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on the 31st.
