4A/5A Southwest recap Oct. 9, 2012
Grand Junction suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after besting Durango. The Tigers had been ranked 25th, but fell to 28 following the defeat.
Grand Junction took down the Demons 49-10 last week, the largest margin of any game. Tyler Heinsma threw for 119 yards and ran for 117 yards in the win.
Fruita Monument's dynamic duo of Jacob Lynch and Brandon Kubic proved tough for Grand Junction Central to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Lynch threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns and Kubic had 81 yards receiving. Kaie Clark helped Fruita Monument's passing attack out by catching two balls for 46 yards.
Austin Lewis was the most productive running back in 4A/5A Southwest this week. He ran for 119 yards on 10 carries as Robbie Owens' team beat the Warriors.
Grand Junction Central's Mike Price and Josh Weller have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Price has thrown for 896 yards this season, while Weller, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 31 catches for 657 yards. Angelo Youngren from Montrose leads the league in rushing with 1024 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Indians take on Fruita Monument. Montrose is currently in second, while Sean Mulvey's team is in third.
The Tigers led 4A/5A Southwest in scoring this week after putting up 49 points on Durango. Heinsma in the win.
