Softball Recap: Niskayuna Snaps 11-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Niskayuna hadn't done well against Guilderland recently (they were 0-6 in their previous six matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Silver Warriors walked away with an 8-5 win over the Flying Dutchmen. This was payback for the Silver Warriors, who suffered a 13-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Ariah Fiore made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Fiore was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Briana Dieckmann, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Sophia Giangiordano, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Niskayuna was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Guilderland only posted a batting average of .172.

Niskayuna's victory ended an 11-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-3. As for Guilderland, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Niskayuna will host Schalmont at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Guilderland, they will challenge Saugerties at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Sawyers will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Flying Dutchmen surely won't give up without a fight.
