Baseball Game Preview: Davenport Central Blue Devils vs. Pleasant Valley Spartans

The Davenport Central Blue Devils will head out to face off against the Pleasant Valley Spartans at 5:00 a.m. on Monday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Davenport Central has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Pleasant Valley will arrive with eight straight wins.

On Thursday, Davenport Central didn't have quite enough to beat Assumption and fell 7-6.

Meanwhile, Pleasant Valley faced Bettendorf in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Spartans put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 10-4 victory. Considering the Spartans have won six games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Pleasant Valley's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Davenport Central, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.

Davenport Central came up short against Pleasant Valley when the teams last played back in June of 2024, falling 4-0. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
