Basketball Recap: Union Comes Up Short

Union lost against Daleville back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Union Rockets had to suffer through a 52-25 loss at the hands of the Daleville Broncos. The Rockets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Union lost, don't look at Glory Ellis. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine boards. That was a full 56% of Union's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Melissa Schmucker, who scored two points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Union smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matches.

Daleville got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Trishell Johnson out in front who had eight points along with eight boards and four steals. Johnson is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last four games she's played. Olivia Pratcher was another key player, going 7-for-15 on her way to 16 points and three steals.

Union's loss dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Daleville, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.

Union didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-15 defeat against Monroe Central on the 4th. As for Daleville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 53-29 victory against Tri-Central on the 4th.
