Baseball Game Preview: Jefferson Wildcats vs. Ottoville Big Green

The Jefferson Wildcats will square off against the Ottoville Big Green at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Jefferson will be strutting in after a win while Ottoville will be coming in after a loss.

Jefferson had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Pandora-Gilboa on Friday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Rockets with a sharp 11-2 victory.

Isaac Rostorfer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up eight Ks. Jefferson is 2-1 when Rostorfer posts eight or more strikeouts, but 2-14 otherwise.

At the plate, Lucas Millmine was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. Jaxon Rahrig was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Jefferson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pandora-Gilboa only managed two hits.

Meanwhile, Ottoville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They came up short against Tinora, falling 11-1.

Ottoville saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jayden Saxton, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Ottoville's loss dropped their record down to 2-14. As for Jefferson, their win bumped their record up to 4-15.

Jefferson took their victory against Ottoville in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-5 score. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Big Green have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
