Softball Game Preview: New London Wildcats vs. Monroeville Eagles

New London is 1-9 against Monroeville since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Wildcats will face off against the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. New London is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.

On Saturday, New London made easy work of Bucyrus and carried off a 13-5 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.

Addison Yetter made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Gracie Thomas was incredible, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Olivia Yetter was another key player, going 4-for-5 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Monroeville has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.32 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Saturday. They came up short against Hillsdale, falling 20-1. The Eagles' loss signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

Monroeville's defeat dropped their record down to 19-3. As for New London, their record now sits at 15-7.

New London couldn't quite get it done against Monroeville in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 6-1. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
