Softball Recap: Monday's Win Is Heritage's Eighth in Last Ten Outings

Heritage won the last time they faced Lenoir City and things went their way on Monday too. The Mountaineers came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 12-7. With that victory, the Mountaineers brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Katelyn Russell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Autumn Brooke Perrin was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Carly Smith, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Heritage hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matchups.

Heritage has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Lenoir City, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-7.

Looking ahead, Heritage will venture away from home to face off against Farragut at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Mountaineers 3.5, the Admirals 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. Lenoir City has already played their next contest (against Sweetwater), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
