Basketball Game Preview: Metrolina Christian Academy Warriors vs. Gaston Day Spartans

Metrolina Christian Academy and Gaston Day are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2019, but not for long. The Metrolina Christian Academy Warriors will welcome the Gaston Day Spartans at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Metrolina Christian Academy is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 72 points on Friday, they were much more limited against Concord Academy on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a 69-25 loss at the hands of the Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 225th, while the Eagles are ranked 34th).

Metrolina Christian Academy's loss came about despite a quality game from Jenna Carlson, who posted seven points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Emily King, who had six points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Metrolina Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Gaston Day was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were outmatched by Concord Academy and fell 69-5. The Spartans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-0.

Gaston Day's loss dropped their record down to 4-18. As for Metrolina Christian Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-9.

Everything came up roses for Metrolina Christian Academy against Gaston Day in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, as the squad secured a 51-21 win.
