Baseball Recap: Skyline Victorious

Skyline's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They came out on top against the Gila Ridge Hawks by a score of 9-5. The victory continues a trend for the Coyotes in their matchups with the Hawks: they've now won three in a row.

Easton Leon looked comfortable as he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Skyline is 6-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 4-5 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Dru Moore and Zane Vander Linden did most of the damage at the plate: Moore scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4, while Vander Linden scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave Moore a new career-high. Julian Otero was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Skyline was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Skyline's win bumped their record up to 10-6. As for Gila Ridge, their defeat was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Skyline will square off against Westwood at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Westwood will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Skyline surely won't give up without a fight. As for Gila Ridge, they will take on Cesar Chavez in a tournament on Friday.
