Baseball Recap: Notre Dame Comes Up Short

Notre Dame was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Chattanooga Christian Chargers. The Fighting Irish were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Chargers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Cooper Jones put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, Jake Wagner was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.

Notre Dame's loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Chattanooga Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6-1 record this season.

Notre Dame will head out to challenge Silverdale Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Seahawks' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Fighting Irish's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Chattanooga Christian, they will welcome McCallie at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Blue Tornado will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Chargers surely won't give up without a fight.
