Softball Game Preview: Prairie du Chien Blackhawks vs. Mineral Point Pointers

The Prairie du Chien Blackhawks will head out on the road to square off against the Mineral Point Pointers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Thursday, it was close, but Prairie du Chien sidestepped Lancaster for a 7-5 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Blackhawks.

Claire Kennedy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Rita Achenbach, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. Irelynd Cejka was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

Meanwhile, Mineral Point waltzed into their match on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They never let the Wildcats get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The Pointers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by ten runs or more this season.

Mineral Point pushed their record up to 12-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Prairie du Chien, their win bumped their record up to 14-4.
