Basketball Recap: O'Neill Takes a Loss

O'Neill was the 63-52 winner over Ord when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The O'Neill Eagles lost 73-49 to the Ord Chanticleers on Friday. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, O'Neill still got an impressive performance from Turner Heiss, who almost dropped a double-double with 26 points and nine boards. Heiss has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Porter Mathews was another key player, putting up six points.

Ord was led to victory by Landon Critel and Elijah Pollard. Critel went 7-for-10 on his way to 20 points, while Pollard dropped a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Critel a new career-high in points. Easton Ryschon also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

O'Neill's defeat dropped their record down to 9-12. As for Ord, their record is now 9-13.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. O'Neill will welcome Battle Creek at 7:00 p.m. on February 21st. O'Neill is facing Battle Creek at the right time seeing as Battle Creek is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Ord, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Ravenna at 6:15 p.m. Ord is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.8 points per game this season.
