Softball Recap: Rutherford Rams vs. Rocky Bayou Christian Knights

Rutherford's game last Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They came out on top against the Rocky Bayou Christian Knights by a score of 12-7. Considering the Rams' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Kenzie Nance made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. She also put up four walks, which were her first of the season. She was even better at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Emma Watkins and Eva Williams did most of the damage at the plate: Watkins scored three runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-5, while Williams went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those two runs gave Williams a new career-high. Jaylen Stump was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.

Rutherford was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .472. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rocky Bayou Christian only posted a batting average of .344.

Rutherford's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-7. As for Rocky Bayou Christian, they moved to 8-4 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Coincidentally, Rutherford and Rocky Bayou Christian will both be playing Poplar Springs the next time they take the field. The Knights will host the Atomics at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Rams will head out to face them at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
