Baseball Recap: Mishawaka Gets the Win

Mishawaka gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They had just enough and edged out the Plymouth Pilgrims/Rockies 8-7. For the Cavemen, this counts as revenge for the 6-3 win the Pilgrims/Rockies walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Mishawaka got a great performance from Colton Handley as he pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Handley has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Shawn Nowacki, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Will Hartzke, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

The victory made it two in a row for Mishawaka and bumps their season record up to 4-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Plymouth, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-5.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Mishawaka will challenge rival Wawasee at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Plymouth is set to square off against their familiar foe Concord at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
