Baseball Recap: Rancho Drops Season-High Score on Pinecrest Academy Cadence

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rancho). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Pinecrest Academy Cadence Cougars a 19-0 shutout on Friday. With that win, the Rams brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

Ethan Nelson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Rancho got a massive performance out of Dylan Layman, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI Layman has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Mayson Au Young-Uwaine, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Rancho always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .649. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Rancho's victory ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-12. As for Pinecrest Academy Cadence, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rancho will square off against Western at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Warriors' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Rams' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Pinecrest Academy Cadence, they will face off against Cimarron-Memorial at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Spartans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.56 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of.
