Basketball Recap: Katey Black and Nevaeh Benjamin Secure Win for Mesilla Valley Christian School

Mesilla Valley Christian School saw some tournament action on Saturday. They greeted the New Year with with a 56-41 victory over the Socorro Warriors. The win made it back-to-back victories for the SonBlazers.

Mesilla Valley Christian School was led to victory by Nevaeh Benjamin and Katey Black. Benjamin dropped a double-double on 16 points and 18 boards, while Black posted 16 points and three steals. Black has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Lillian Balizan, who earned ten points and eight rebounds.

Mesilla Valley Christian School's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Socorro, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Mesilla Valley Christian School will head out to square off against Hot Springs at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hot Springs will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Mesilla Valley Christian School surely won't give up without a fight. As for Socorro, they will challenge Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Socorro is facing Valley at the right time seeing as Valley is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
