Basketball Game Preview: Avon Pirates vs. Burke Cougars

The Avon Pirates will face off against the Burke Cougars at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Burke took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Avon, who comes in off a win.

Avon took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They walked away with a 45-38 win over Andes Central/Dakota Christian. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Pirates' disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 74th, while Andes Central/Dakota Christian are ranked 19th).

Meanwhile, Burke had to suffer through a 70-35 loss at the hands of Lyman. The matchup marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Avon's win bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Burke, their loss dropped their record down to 9-5.

Avon strolled past Burke in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 by a score of 44-29. Will Avon repeat their success, or does Burke have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
