Softball Recap: Friday's Loss Ends Highland's Winning Streak

Highland dropped their record down to 19-9 on Friday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Owyhee Storm, falling 10-2. If the Rams were looking for revenge after losing 18-6 to the Storm when the teams met back in April of 2022, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Highland saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emerson Gifford, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI. Another was Reece Bybee, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

As for Owyhee, they pushed their record up to 26-1 with the victory, which was their 22nd straight at home dating back to last season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9 runs.

On Owyhee's side, Grace Brooks and Hailey Bock made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Brooks struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Bock didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Brooks went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run, while Bock went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, McKenna Schab and Caitlyn Geiser did most of the damage at the plate: Schab went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Geiser went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Hailey Brennan, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Highland will head out on the road to square off against Mountain View at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. The Rams' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mavericks have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season. Owyhee does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
