Soccer Game Preview: Davenport vs. Wimberley

The Davenport Wolves will square off against the Wimberley Texans at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Davenport has three straight victories, Wimberley has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the pitch.

Wimberley better have a healthy lead at halftime, because if last week is any indication, that's when Davenport really gets things going. Everything went Davenport's way against Bandera on Friday as Davenport made off with a 4-1 win.

Josh Atampi and Vicente Hernandez scored all four of Davenport's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 28 goals.

Meanwhile, Wimberley came up short against Marble Falls on Friday, falling 4-1. While losing is never fun, the Texans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 684th, while the Mustangs are ranked 314th).

Davenport pushed their record up to 6-6 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 12 goals over those three games. As for Wimberley, their loss dropped their record down to 5-12.

Davenport was able to grind out a solid win over Wimberley in their previous matchup back in February, winning 3-1. Does Davenport have another victory up their sleeve, or will Wimberley turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
