The Purdue Polytechnic Techies are headed away from home for the first time to take on the Germantown Red Devils at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Purdue Polytechnic not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since May 10, 2025 (when they won 9-2). Everything went their way against Memphis Central as they made off with a 12-5 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Techies.
Diego Briceno Vega made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Briceno Vega was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, Purdue Polytechnic let Nevan Jeffers and Jordan Winkler run wild. Jeffers went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Winkler went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Jeffers has posted since back in May of 2025. Cornell Muse was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Purdue Polytechnic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .697. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Memphis Central only posted an OBP of .296.
Meanwhile, Germantown never let their opponents score on Thursday. They put the hurt on Tournament Opponent with a sharp 15-0 win. Considering the Red Devils have won five contests by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Jeremy Parker was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Fabian Barrero was a standout: he got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Elijah Cody, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three RBI and two runs.
Purdue Polytechnic's record now sits at 2-0. As for Germantown, their record is now 6-2.
