Softball Recap: Cibola Comes Up Short

Cibola extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 7-11. They took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Piedra Vista Panthers. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

Gabrielle Moncada spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and seven unearned) runs on ten hits.

On the hitting side, Deandra Enriquez was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

As for Piedra Vista, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games.

On Piedra Vista's side, DRUSCILLA NABORS made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. NABORS has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on MICHAELA PEREA, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. TIYANA ROYCE also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Looking ahead, Cibola will head out on the road to take on Rio Rancho at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rams have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed nine runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Piedra Vista, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Cleveland at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Storm have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season.
