Baseball Recap: Cate Takes a Loss

Cate extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to four on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-3. They came up short against the Grace Lancers, falling 14-2. If the Rams were looking for revenge after losing 14-1 to the Lancers when the teams met back in April of 2022, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Cate saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Noah Casbarro, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

As for Grace, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 8-6. Considering they have won six matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

On Grace's side, Kade Monica was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Monica is becoming a predictor of Grace's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 5-1 (and 3-5 when he doesn't). Monica was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dylan Ferguson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Grace is undefeated when Ferguson posts two or more runs, but 4-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Charlie Martinez, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

While Cate had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
