Basketball Game Preview: McDonald County Mustangs vs. Pea Ridge Blackhawks

The McDonald County Mustangs will be taking part in a tournament against the Pea Ridge Blackhawks at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

McDonald County saw some tournament action on Wednesday. They enjoyed a cozy 52-34 win over Rogers Heritage. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.

Dakota O'Brien had a dynamite game, almost dropping a double-double with 22 points and nine rebounds. The contest was her 12th in a row with at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Jamie Washam, who almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine boards.

McDonald County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in 12 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pea Ridge). They walked away with a 74-62 victory over Rogers Heritage on Thursday. The Blackhawks have beaten the War Eagles the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the War Eagles has come to flipping the script.

McDonald County's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Pea Ridge, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
