The Berean Christian Eagles will head out to square off against the Concord Bears at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Berean Christian will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Berean Christian had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Campolindo on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitcher stepped up to hand the Cougars a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Eagles have won seven matchups by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
LeAna Cimarra was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Leila Rhoads was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Concord made sure to put some runs up on the board against Mt. Diablo on Tuesday. The Bears blew past the Red Devils 17-5. With that win, the Bears brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
Aislynn Newlin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Shay Caban, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Ilene Garcia, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one double.
Concord always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .735. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.
Berean Christian's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Concord, their record now sits at 5-10.
Concord's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Berean Christian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .334. It's a different story for Concord, though, as they've only averaged .251. Will they be able to contain Berean Christian's hitters?
Everything went Berean Christian's way against Concord in their previous matchup back in April, as Berean Christian made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
