No. 8 Christian Brothers (Sacramento) (8-3) at No. 1 American Canyon (10-1)

Christian Brothers moves on to the second round for the first time since 1986, when it went on to lose to Vintage in the D1 championship game. The Falcons' 54-20 victory over Pacheco on Friday snapped a 12-game postseason losing streak dating back to that title game. American Canyon, meanwhile, is in the playoffs for the second straight time and second time in school history. Last year, the Hawks made it to the D3 semifinals, losing to eventual Northern California champion Oakdale. These teams have never met in the playoffs.

After three straight appearances in the D3 championship game, including last year's victory, Oakdale wasn't supposed to get out of the first round. But the Mustangs surprised Patterson and are as likely as anybody on this half of the bracket to keep winning. This is Oakdale's fifth straight quarterfinal appearance. Sacramento won its first playoff game in school history on Saturday, when it held off Benicia 42-35. The Dragons now have a 1-6 career postseason record. They've made the playoffs for five straight seasons. These teams have never met in the playoffs.

No. 6 Vanden (Fairfield) (8-3) at No. 3 Inderkum (Sacramento) (9-2)

Inderkum first qualified for the Section playoffs in 2006; and they made it to the second round that year. That's a streak that hasn't ended since, as it's up to eight years after the Tigers beat Lincoln-L last week. They draw the Vanden Vikings, in the second round for the first time since 2010 after surviving Friday's 39-37 victory over Vista del Lago. While Inderkum has made it to the quarterfinals every time it's qualified for the playoffs, it has never won a championship. Vanden has three championship banners hanging in its gym: The 1975, 1984 and 1995 D3 titles. These teams have never met in the playoffs.

No. 10 Casa Roble (Orangevale) (8-3) at No. 2 Manteca (10-1)

Casa Roble is in the quarterfinals for the first time since 2011, when it advanced to the semifinals. The Rams missed the postseason last year, but are 9-3 in the playoffs since 2008. That includes the team that won the D3 championship in 2008. Manteca is into the second round for the first time since 2007; when it beat Central Valley it ended a five-game postseason losing streak. The Buffaloes have won three Section titles: 2001, 2005 and 2006. Manteca and Casa Roble have met in the postseason once before, a 35-28 victory for the Rams in the first round of the 2009 Division III bracket.
