The Taos Tigers will face off against the Moriarty Pintos at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Taos will be strutting in after a win while Moriarty will be coming in after a loss.
Taos made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Pojoaque Valley, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Tigers blew past the Elks/Elkettes 14-4 on Wednesday. 14 seems to be a good number for the Tigers as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
The team relied heavily on Juli Flores, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Carissa Sanchez, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Taos always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Moriarty started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Los Alamos. They fell just short of the Hilltoppers by a score of 8-7 on Monday. The Pintos have struggled against the Hilltoppers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.
Sienna Rios was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Shae Rios was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Taos is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Moriarty, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-5.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Taos hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .413. However, it's not like Moriarty struggles in that department as they've averaged .361. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Taos was able to grind out a solid victory over Moriarty in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 8-5. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Pintos have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
