Softball Game Preview: Lewis Cass Kings vs. Maconaquah Braves

The Lewis Cass Kings will head out to take on the Maconaquah Braves at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lewis Cass will be strutting in after a win while Maconaquah will be coming in after a loss.

Lewis Cass lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Wabash, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's game. The Kings put the hurt on the Apaches with a sharp 10-1 victory on Monday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Kings.

Hannah Penn was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Hannah Zamora was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Lewis Cass was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .471. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Maconaquah was a bit more limited in their contest on Wednesday. They came up short against Northwestern, falling 15-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Braves in their meetings with the Tigers: they've now lost five in a row.

Maconaquah saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kasey Murry, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

Lewis Cass' record is now 8-11. As for Maconaquah, their loss dropped their record down to 5-14.

Maconaquah's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lewis Cass has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Maconaquah, though, as they've been averaging 9.3 hits. Given Lewis Cass' sizable advantage in that area, the Braves will need to find a way to close that gap.

Lewis Cass might still be hurting after the 9-0 defeat they got from Maconaquah in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Kings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
