Football Recap: Corona Del Mar Starts Season with Win Against Rancho Verde

Corona del Mar gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Rancho Verde Mustangs 41-6. With the Sea Kings ahead 41-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Brady Annett was a one-man wrecking crew as he threw for 256 yards and five TDs while completing 86.7% of his passes, and also rushed for 54 yards and one score. What's more, he racked up 166 passer rating, the most he's had since back in August of 2024. Another player making a difference was Dorsett Stecker, who picked up 104 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Rancho Verde's loss came despite strong showings from Jimmy Cruz and George Campbell. Cruz rushed for 96 yards and one score, while Campbell rushed for 85 yards on only 11 carries.

Coming up, Corona del Mar will take on Santa Barbara at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Rancho Verde, they will square off against Great Oak at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
