Payson had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top against the Clearfield Falcons by a score of 66-53 on Thursday. The win was nothing new for the Lions as they're now sitting on nine straight dating back to last season.

Payson's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Austin Staheli led the charge by almost dropping a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds. Those nine boards gave Staheli a new career-high. Scott Bylund was another key player, putting up nine points and three steals.

Payson didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 68-59 loss against Westlake on the 21st. As for Clearfield, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 67-41 victory against Desert Hills on the 21st.
