Softball Game Preview: Maypearl Panthers vs. Stephenville Yellow Jackets/Honeybees

The Maypearl Panthers will venture away from home to challenge the Stephenville Yellow Jackets/Honeybees at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Maypearl fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Glen Rose on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers.

Bailey Short was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs, three RBI, and one stolen base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Elaine Lopez, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Short wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Maypearl lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since the start of last season.

Meanwhile, Stephenville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against China Spring, falling 12-4.

Meg McGregor made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI. Reese Haggard was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Maypearl's record is now 8-5-2. As for Stephenville, their record now sits at 10-7-1.

Maypearl suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Stephenville when the teams last played back in March of 2022. Can Maypearl avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
