Baseball Game Preview: Chelmsford Lions vs. Central Catholic Raiders

The Chelmsford Lions will head out to challenge the Central Catholic Raiders at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games Chelmsford has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

On Monday, it was close, but Chelmsford sidestepped Leominster for a 4-3 win.

Matthew Wilson and Will Colucci dominated on the mound. Wilson tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit, while Colucci pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Colucci has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Matthew Stuart was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Another player making a difference was John Latham, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Central Catholic suffered their biggest loss since May 26, 2024 on Wednesday. They lost 12-6 to Mt. St. Michael Academy.

Chelmsford has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Central Catholic, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.

Chelmsford beat Central Catholic 5-0 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
