Softball Game Preview: Avella Eagles vs. California Trojans

The Avella Eagles will head out to challenge the California Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Avella came up short against Mt. Lebanon on Saturday, falling 29-7.

Madison Rush and Haleigh Rush stepped up to the plate in a big way. Madison went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while Haleigh went 2-for-3 with one home run, one triple, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Shirley, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, California lost 18-4 to Mapletown on Friday.

Aubrey Dearinger was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with three RBI. Another player making a difference was Maddy Morton, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Avella came out on top in a nail-biter against California when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 11-10. The rematch might be a little tougher for Avella since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
