The Pontotoc Warriors will square off against the Nettleton Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Pontotoc has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with five straight losses, while Nettleton will come in with five straight wins.
On Thursday, Pontotoc came up short against New Hope and fell 4-1.
Pontotoc saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Star Williams, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Nettleton never let their opponents score on Thursday. They came out on top against Mooreville by a score of 5-0.
Not much got past Bailey Payne, who gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Mooreville off the board. Payne has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Zion Seals was incredible, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Zyah Gunter, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Nettleton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mooreville only posted a batting average of .083.
Nettleton pushed their record up to 23-2-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Pontotoc, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-8.
